Today we’re going to talk about how to get faster by slowing down; a tip that all top performers swear by. The latest trend is to go, go, go as fast as we can to get it all done. But what does that do to you? Are you feeling depleted, overwhelmed, exhausted? Feeling like you can’t do enough? Guilty because you’re not being the parent that you should be or showing up like you should be? That’s not serving you, is it? No, it’s not. So here’s the thing. You can go faster, but in order to go faster, you have to slow down and I’m gonna tell you how to slow down.
Before I do that, I want to share with you a story that resonated with me, that I think that you can relate to. Phil Jackson wrote the book, ”The Soul of Success” during his time when he was coaching the LA Lakers. He had a very simple mindfulness exercise where the players would come out of the game and they would do this exercise.

So picture this, the player comes off of the court and onto the bench. And the simple exercise was that when the player sat down, (imagine his heart was racing, he was sweating, his mind was going all over the place) and so this very simple exercise in just sitting down, placing both feet on the ground, his hands on his knees, and just taking deep breaths in and out, slowly conscious mindfulness breaths, allow for him to slow down. To gain control of his heart rate, to get centered and refocused, to get back in the game. And in doing that as taking conscious breath and just breathing consciously, he was able to jump back in, be stronger, faster, and give it everything he had in order to perform to his optimal level as he knew he can.
So I promise you if you just breathe. I know it sounds simple, but believe me, the simplest things in life are what works. So if you allow yourself the space, just give me two minutes and breathe consciously, you will not feel overwhelmed, and you will be reset and going faster than you went before. Are you a high performer finding yourself on the sideline, wanting back in the day? Well guess what, I’m your girl!
